Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.

SCAN is looking for a Lead Associate, Student Engagement to be the key organizer of student clubs across the country. Elevating diverse youth voices is a key priority to highlighting the need for policy change and direct programs impacting children in the US and around the world. You will be responsible for engaging high school and college students in the mission of Save the Children (SCUS) and the political advocacy campaigns for SCAN. You will oversee and support existing SCUS and SCAN school clubs and work to expand club presence to new schools around the country by identifying, engaging, training, and activating students to represent SCUS and SCAN’s fundraising and legislative priorities: expanding access to early childhood development, combating child hunger, ensuring humane treatment of children at our southern border.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Program Management and Execution (60%)

  • Manage existing high school and college clubs.
  • Identify and recruit and re-engage high school and college clubs in priority states.
  • Onboard new high school and college clubs.
  • Create a meaningful journey for students through student clubs and leadership positions.
  • Host training and learning opportunities to empower students to be successful in their SCAN activities.
  • Create, implement, and review tools and communication that support community engagement, advocacy and fundraising best practices.
  • Sustain strong data management including activity tracking and reporting in Excel and Every Action.
  • Set Key Performance Indicators in partnership with other team members across SCAN.
  • Support the planning, goal setting, and recruitment process for national events including a bi-annual Advocacy Summit and election events.

Campaigning (25%)

  • Regularly meet with student club leadership to provide coaching, support, and strategy for new and inexperienced advocates.
  • Support the Senior Advisor of National Campaigns in creating student- specific resources for priority federal campaigns including toolkits, social media messaging, factsheets, presentation materials and more.
  • Support State Managers in SCAN states in engaging students in state legislative campaigns when needed.
  • Continually encourage students to meet goals and advocate for the resources needed.

Operational Excellence (15%)

  • Maintain documentation and reports for the program.
  • Support the development and execution of student-specific training and leadership opportunities in coordination with the Volunteer Leadership and Training team at SCAN.
  • Provide technical assistance on child safeguarding for the SCAN team as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to educate others on the legislative and electoral process
  • Experience in youth organizing and engagement campaigns
  • Experience working with diverse groups of volunteers both in online and offline settings.
  • Experience with instructional content development, especially advocacy content
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on state legislative or local campaigns
  • Experience developing and managing volunteers in a mostly remote setting
  • Experience using VAN and/or Every Action for data management

Compensation

Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66,300 – $74,100 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60,350 – $67,450 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54,400 – $60,800 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
