About the Role
The Advanced Vehicle Engineering Centre (AVEC) at Cranfield University has built an enviable track record focused on low carbon vehicle engineering for on-road and off-road vehicles. Since its creation in 2016, AVEC has grown year on year thanks to the exceptional dedication of its staff, and its world class experimental facilities, many of which are unique to Cranfield. The research and consultancy carried out by the Centre is truly inspirational, undertaken for public bodies and industrial clients worldwide, including the major Automotive OEM’s, consultants and Tier 1 suppliers, Formula 1, Formula 2, GT, WRC and Dakar race teams.
This post represents a unique opportunity to join this dynamic team and help lead the development of Automotive teaching and research within the Centre. This role will support the continued development of the Automotive MSc course and associated research activity with a particular focus on Automotive Engineering design principles including overall vehicle system design, target setting, benchmarking, and system integration, including system level optimisation. As well as developing research proposals in this area to support our commercial clients and public funding opportunities, the job holder will be expected to lead the Automotive Engineering MSc as Course Director and develop the course to embrace the new technologies and approaches required by the sector. The job holder will also be expected to contribute to academic research output, and promotion of the Centre.
About You
You will be educated to doctoral level in Automotive Engineering or equivalent significant industrial experience. With experience of Automotive design integration including the major components of powertrain, chassis, braking, HVAC etc. you will also require experience of project management, bid writing and journal paper production.

The Advanced Vehicle Engineering Centre (AVEC) is an agile, multidisciplinary Centre serving the motorsport, automotive, aerospace, defence, agricultural and industrial vehicle sectors. The Centre is recognised for its industrial links, delivering a wide range of projects with varying timescales to its expanding client base. Highly coupled to this industrially focused research and development activity is a postgraduate education programme incorporating five MSc courses, research degrees and an expanding short course portfolio. AVEC has grown year on year and is now entering its next development cycle. Integral to this plan is the development of our Automotive Engineering Teaching provision across our MSc and short course programmes.
