Organizational Background
Communities In Schools (CIS) is a national organization in existence for over 43 years and has been established in Delaware for 30 years. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Exemplary leadership has been the key to the great success of our organization, and it is expected that acquiring high quality leadership will continue to be a priority of CIS.
The Executive Director (ED) of Communities In Schools of Delaware (CISDE) will collaborate with the Board of Directors, Advisory Council and staff to increase impact, grow programs, refine infrastructure, and build a sustainable funding base.
Operations Management (Leadership)
● Provide strategic, visionary, inspirational, and transformational leadership for the management and administration of all elements of (CISDE)
● Collaborate with CISDE Board Chairperson concerning all aspects of the organization
● Work with CISDE Board of Directors and serve as an advisory role to all board committees
● Enhance board membership by recruiting and developing diverse board member candidates for CISDE Board of Directors approval
● Develop strategic and service operational plans for board approval
● Provide daily organizational leadership for all CISDE employees through structured communication, performance feedback and professional development
● Manage the program and service evaluation process to document the achievement of program and service goals and objectives through Total Quality Systems (TQS)
● Oversee the coordination and delivery of all student, family and community programs and services
● Screen, interview and recommend to the board all candidates for board-approved staff positions
● Supervise and evaluate all CISDE staff members
● Develop and implement an orientation program for new staff members
● Develop and submit program and financial accounting reports to CISDE Board of Directors
● Compile and explain a variety of data for annual report, to meet grant requirements, etc.
● Develop and submit required reports to appropriate national, regional, state and local agencies, corporations, organizations, foundations, grant funders, etc.
● Review and approve all recommended curricula, services, and program activities
● Perform other responsibilities, duties and expectations as assigned by the Board of Directors
Resource Development (Finance & Fundraising)
● Seek and secure funding sources needed to grow the programs and services provided by CISDE
● Manage grant writing process to secure new funding for CISDE
● Supervise and administer all financial resources of CISDE
● Maintain all records, reports, correspondences, financial statements, contracts, agreements and other written documents required for financial review and account auditing with board of directors, CIS National, partners and related agencies
● Oversee the receipt, disbursement and accounting of all CISDE funds
● Develop CISDE annual budget for staff input and board review and approval Organization Promotion (Branding & Marketing)
● Develop partnerships, agreements and relationships and build coalitions with appropriate local, state and national organizations, businesses and agencies to further the mission of CISDE
● Formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding, and development strategies for the enhancement of the organization and the acquisition of revenue from diverse funding sources
● Establish and maintain positive relationships with local media outlets
● Act as primary spokesperson for CISDE in media relations activities
● Serve as designee for dropout prevention, advocacy, training, and technical assistance
Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree required
● 5 years leadership experience in successful non-profit management
● Supervised at least 25 people
● Budget management of at least $1.5 million
● Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills
● Strong written and oral communication skills
● Strong operations management, financial acumen, and fiscal management skills
● Strong, bipartisan relationship building skills
● Strong experience with navigating the PreK-12 grade educational system
● Proven track record of success with grant writing and fundraising
Preferred Qualifications
● Master’s degree
● 7 – 10 years leadership experience in non-profit management
