Electrical and Computer Engineering

Job Description

K231303

Mentor: Dr. Nuria Vendrell-Llopis, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The NVL-Lab at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UAB is seeking a highly motivated postdoc to explore the impact of dopamine on neuroprosthetic learning and the reinforcement of preferred behavior. Our lab employs a multidisciplinary approach, utilizing experimental neural and behavioral data collected from animal models. We leverage cutting-edge techniques such as photo-pharmacology, neuro-stimulation, machine learning, and computational methods to delve into the intricate mechanisms underlying learning. Our investigations aim to uncover how animals learn to control artificial effectors and how optical techniques can influence learning in both physiological and pathological conditions. The ultimate goal is to unravel the neural basis of learning and pioneer neuro-technology-based solutions that can artificially restore and enhance cognitive skills.

Be part of a collaborative environment where you can perform innovative research using advanced techniques to influence the development of neuro-technology-based interventions for cognitive disorders.

Requirements:

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Neuroscience, or related fields.

Strong background in experimental design and data analysis.

Experience with animal research, neuroprosthetic paradigms, electrical/optical stimulation, and/or machine learning.

Proficiency in Python programming.

Application Deadline: May 2024
