Position Description
Pay Grade: Professional 4
The position will serve and protect the college community. The officer will be required to provide a variety of services, including but not limited to, community policing, traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, investigations, and special events.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.
- Patrols various campus grounds on foot, bicycle, and in a patrol vehicle to ensure a safe environment
- Receives, investigates and completes reported complaints, and other investigative services as requested
- Regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic
- Assists the public with vehicle starts, unlocks, requested information, and escorts
- Investigates traffic accidents and files preliminary accident reports
Cooperates with local law enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response
agencies on matters of mutual interest
Provides leadership to new officers on campus
Provides first aid treatment to members of the college community and to visitors
Prepares and presents testimony in court
Provides security for special college events
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to accept any location and/or shift as assigned by supervisor at the discretion of the Chief
Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression and in writing, including the ability to give instructions in a precise, understandable manner
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to read, write and comprehend the English language
Ability to gather information through questioning individuals and to accurately record information provided
Ability to utilize investigative techniques to obtain information
Understand and apply the laws, rules, policies, and regulations governing assigned activities
Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data, to draw conclusions, and to make appropriate recommendations
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license
Basic knowledge of MS Office products including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent
NC Sworn law enforcement officer OR currently enrolled BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) student
Must be willing to work one of the following shifts on a long term basis at any Wake Tech campus as assigned by the supervisor:
- 2nd shift (Monday-Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) OR
- 2nd shift (Wednesday - Saturday, varying afternoon-evening hours)
