Professor of Practice in Accounting & Director of Tax Education
Job Description
The Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business at Westminster University in Salt Lake City, Utah invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice in Accounting and Director of Tax Education for the Westminster Center for Financial Wellness. The Professor of Practice title is assigned to practitioners or experts in a field who have extensive practical experiences with skills and expertise acquired in nonacademic careers. The successful candidate will have degrees, expertise, and/or professional experience in accounting. Beyond teaching and administration, other responsibilities include scholarly research, advising students, and engaging in service for the university and school.
We seek candidates who are committed to quality teaching in a learning-focused environment, willingness to participate in research and publishing, professionally engaged, and administratively skilled. This full-time position will have up to a 50% teaching load (assuming a 24-hr. contract) and the remainder 50% administrative duties as the Director of Tax Education, funded by current tax grants that the candidate will be expected to maintain. Salaries and benefits, including tuition remission, are competitive. The starting date is Fall 2024.
As an assistant professor of practice, the faculty member will teach taxation and other related courses in the undergraduate and graduate accounting/ business programs. As the Director of Tax Education, this person will manage and lead our current VITA, LITC, and related tax community support and education grants. The Director will manage our VITA and LITC sites and look for additional opportunities for related grants for tax-related community support, student engagement, and education.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD, JD or master’s degree in accounting or tax
- 5 years’ experience in tax practice and tax work in the community
- Excellence in teaching and readiness to work with a diverse student body and local community
- Outstanding planning, organization and communication skills are needed to perform administrative aspects of position, including student recruiting, admissions, advising, staffing courses, mentoring, curriculum design, and career placement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current professional licensure (Attorney, CPA, EA, CMA, etc.) or ability to become licensed.
