Accountability Objective

Accountability Objective The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Advisor assists the Director with administration, coordination, and delivery of the TRIO SSS Program. The TRIO Academic Advisor is responsible for assisting the Director with the daily management of the TRIO SSS Program. The TRIO Academic Advisor is also charged with responsibility for assimilating, documenting, and submitting to the Director all data as required by the United States Department of Education and to maintain compliance with the TRIO SSS federal grant guidelines.

 

Required Qualifications Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field.
Minimum of 2-3 years of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar related program/project for disadvantaged and at-risk college students. Experience advising and assisting students with transfer to four-year university/college admissions and financial aid process.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds with respect to socio-economic levels, race, ethnicity, gender, physical and mental attributes, etc.; Working knowledge of computers and Internet resources; Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, organize, and implement academic support programs and activities; Working knowledge of Danville Area Community College academic programs and services; Ability to work occasional evening hours and some weekend hours, based on need.

 

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field.
Ability to conduct academic advising and design individual student educational plans for academic achievement;
Working knowledge of database computer skills for advising/registering students for classes;
Experience working in post secondary education;
Evidence of success in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting participants in the TRIO Students Support Services Program (first generation college student, low income, or disability).

Essential Job Function Essential Job Function
Conduct ongoing outreach and recruitment efforts to establish the required number of TRiO SSS participants by February 1st of each TRIO SSS program year.

Determine students’ eligibility and selection for the TRIO SSS Program using Federal guidelines and the TRIO SSS Program Plan of Operation

Maintain a minimum, active caseload of half of the required number of TRIO SSS Program participants.

Conduct all required TRIO SSS Program services according to the TRIO SSS Program Plan of Operation

Interview students to access academic and personal barriers to success and utilize multiple interventions to effectively address those barriers to ensure persistence at Danville Area Community College

Make and receive TRIO SSS Program participant referrals to/from appropriate campus personnel and/or community agencies. Be cognizant of special issues which may develop with students and may come to your attention and refer program participants to the appropriate individual or service. Be able to conduct follow-up on program participant referrals to ensure program academic support services are met.

Assist the Director with the daily management of the TRIO SSS Program.
