Knox College invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Assistant Director of Transfer Admissions. This person will work within a recruitment territory to achieve a high level of visibility for the College; identify and recruit well-matched candidates for admission; build relationships with school counselors, college administrators, educational consultants, and alumni; and assist students and their parents in applying for admission and financial aid. The primary focus of this position will be to develop, implement, and lead recruitment efforts to enroll domestic transfer students from two and four-year colleges and universities. This campus-based position will report directly to the Director of International and Transfer Admissions.

 


Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Engage daily with prospective transfer students and their parents via phone, text, email, video, and in-person to achieve a high level of interaction and build sustained relationships through the college search.

  • Assist students in assessing match/fit and how Knox could help to achieve their educational goals.

  • Work with families to understand college costs, affordability, and how to apply for scholarships and financial aid.

  • Develop, manage, and implement a plan for recruiting domestic transfer students, including marketing and engagement communications, on- and off-campus events, virtual events, relationship-building with key community colleges, and transfer credit evaluation and advising. Work alongside a direct supervisor to achieve application and enrollment goals for the transfer student population.

  • Represent Knox at college fairs, attending college fairs, hosting information sessions, meeting with school counselors, community-based organization advisors, and independent educational consultants, and conducting admission interviews for prospective students; work evenings and weekends as needed for events and to engage with students and parents. Hours can be long and varied. This position often entails working evenings and weekends at least 10-15% of the time.

  • Lead transfer partnerships and articulation agreements with collaboration from the Director of International and Transfer Admissions.

  • Represent Knox College and its programs to prospective students, their families, community college counselors, and professors through on- and off-campus visits, phone calls, and special events.

  • The Assistant Director will be responsible for proactively developing relationships that lead to the successful recruitment of students wishing to transfer to Knox College.

  • Perform a holistic review of applications for admission, including the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of transcripts, standardized test scores, essays and written submissions, recommendations, and other evidence of student preparation, match, and fit with Knox College. Application materials are reviewed digitally within the Slate admission and document management system; applicants are evaluated by completing forms within that system.

  • Regularly engage with, and help support, the Campus Visit Team with prospective student visits to campus. Give presentations, conduct informational meetings and admission interviews, and assist with large campus visit programs as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and public speaking abilities; and talent for developing relationships with various constituencies.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to plan and execute compelling on- and off-campus events for prospective students, counselors, advisors, and consultants.
    • Experience with and passion for creating virtual engagement, social media, video, digital communications, and online events.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work, manage complex tasks, and complete multiple projects on time while working independently and having the resourcefulness, flexibility, and initiative to adapt to constant change.
    • Strong analytical skills in assessing the effectiveness of recruitment and communication initiatives and in evaluating candidates for admission.
    • An understanding of academic advising and credit evaluations.
    • Must possess and be able to convey a strong appreciation and articulate the value of a residential liberal arts education; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusions; and respect for individual differences and an openness to values and opinions of others.
    • Ability to travel up to 6 weeks per year.
    • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
    • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

 


Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor's degree

Minimum Experience Required:
At least 3-5 years of professional experience.
 

Minimum Licenses/Certifications Required:

Valid driver’s license

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer

Additional Qualifications: (Preferred qualifications)
  • Previous experience in college admission, education, educational advising, or consulting.
  • Ability to engage in overnight travel via car, train, and/or plane.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends.
