Senior Financial Aid Counselor

Job Description

Under general guidance, assists with leading and supporting a professional, efficient, and service-oriented operation that provides full-range financial aid services. This role is also responsible for the automated financial aid system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Determine financial aid eligibility and award students aid in accordance with federal and institutional policies and regulations; assign estimated cost of attendance budgets, perform accurate FM and IM need analysis calculations.
  • Make aid eligibility determinations, package aid in compliance with all applicable rules and policies, and effectively managing an annual caseload of student files.
  • Responsible for private loan certification, disbursement, and reconciliation.
  • Administer the college’s scholarship programs in collaboration with the Medical College, External Affairs, and the Budget Office.
  • Develops a scholarship/financial resources database for students.
  • Liaise with Cornell University Itaca’s Registrar Office to certify Veteran Benefit and Yellow Ribbon Scholarship.
  • Assist in creating a service-oriented environment committed to supporting student educational goals by providing high quality financial aid counseling and support and providing a comprehensive approach to financial aid and student accounts advisements.
  • Discuss personalized aid offers, eligibility criteria, terms and conditions, adjustments, special or unusual circumstances, long-term financial success and student debt, WCM’s payment options, how external resources are incorporated into aid offers.
  • Test and implement technologies to support and enhance office.
  • Attend/host workshops, orientation, and open house events for prospective and accepted students.
  • Other duties and projects as required.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience

At least 2 years experience working with federal financial aid programs and regulations.

Demonstrated experience or exposure in Student Financial Services.

Knowledge of PowerFAIDs and Jenzabar preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of award management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonalskills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse dynamic team of professionals
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
