Job Description:
The responsibilities of the Network Engineer II include the following:
- Responsible for the installation, maintenance/support, and relocation of network equipment as well as installation of all network equipment software.
- Involved in project planning and systems integration issues. Manages and configures enterprise level tools.
- Receives user calls regarding network related problems and performs the appropriate action to resolve the problem.
- Works on specialized and complex assignments relating to the installation and relocation of hardware and software for network equipment.
- Administers, configures, and manages tools and applications that operate on enterprise level.
- Performs diagnosis of failures to determine whether they are induced by network s/w or h/w and notifies appropriate information technology staff.
- Modifies, updates, and replaces internal equipment parts, as required. Assists with the preparation of network document specifications, standards, instructions, and user manuals, as needed.
- Assists with the development and implementation of security standards and protocols to ensure systems are accessible only by authorized users.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *This is a Civil Service position. The final candidate will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam.* The successful candidate must possess one of the following:
- A high school or equivalency diploma and a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience where a primary function of the position was the installation, operation, maintenance and problem diagnosis of network equipment including routers and switches; OR
- Current CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification and three (3) years of experience where a primary function of the position was the installation, operation, maintenance and problem diagnosis of network equipment including routers and switches; OR
- Eight (8) years of experience where a primary function of the position was the installation, operation, maintenance and problem diagnosis of network equipment including routers and switches.
Satisfactory completion of 30 credits may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the required experience. A Master's Degree in Information Technology or a closely related field may also be substituted for one additional year of experience.
Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred qualifications include the following:
- Proficiency in some or all of the following: Dell Servers/PCs, Kemp Load Balancers, Dell/EMC/TrueNAS Storage, Alcatel Switches, Routers, Network Access Control Devices, Aruba Access Points, cables, and various testing & networking tools & peripherals (soft/hardware based).
- Microsoft(Office 365, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, LDAP), VMware, SSL Certificates, Alert Logic, Nexpose, Ubuntu, and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.
Additional Information:
POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Given this work schedule, the incumbent is eligible for an evening differential.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary for this position is $83,015. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $110,182. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
