Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) provides expertise and leadership at the University of Maryland around equity, diversity and inclusion work. The following units are within ODI: ADA/504 Coordinator, Bias Incident & Support Services, Diversity Training & Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE), and TerrapinSTRONG. The Office of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct (OCRSM) also reports to the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion.

Collaboratively, TerrapinSTRONG and Diversity, Training & Education (DTE) facilitate trainings, education, and programming related to equity, diversity, and inclusion to further the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence. These areas also oversee the facilitation of the Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program and TerrapinSTRONG. All new faculty, staff and students participate in the TerrapinSTRONG onboarding course, as well as TerrapinSTRONG onboarding initiatives within their division/college/school. These onboarding experiences are just the first step to creating an inclusive campus. TerrapinSTRONG holds a shared understanding from which we work to improve the sense of community, connection and inclusion on our campus.
The program manager forTerrapinSTRONG assists the director with the delivery of campus-wide and unit-specific efforts related to diversity programming and engagement. The program manager will be responsible for conceptualizing, executing, and evaluating original diversity programming, as well as collaborating with other campus programming bodies that oversee diversity programming efforts. This position will also partner with campus stakeholders to cultivate learning community experiences (e.g., train-the-trainer and DEI professional development program) that enhance faculty and staff capacity for effectively engaging across differences. Along with a network of diversity programmers, this position will develop procedures for collecting information on campus-wide programs and contribute to developing the ODI website as a hub for information and resources pertaining to diversity programming.

The program manager for this area will administer diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging programming and/or trainings including but not limited to Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program (WeIDP), TerrapinSTRONG, train-the-trainer programs, and consultations with students, faculty, and staff. This position will facilitate educational opportunities, supervise facilitators, develop and implement assessment and evaluation of programs and trainings, and oversee the recruitment process for the program. This position will report directly to the director for TerrapinSTRONG.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in education, social science or related fields; and five (5) years’ experience developing and delivering trainings and educational programs pertaining to diversity or related subject matter in higher education which includes two (2) years’ experience teaching or facilitating trainings. One (1) year of supervisory experience.

OR

Master’s degree in education, social science or a related field; and three (3) years’ experience developing and delivering trainings and educational programs pertaining to diversity or related subject matter in higher education which includes two (2) years’ experience teaching or facilitating trainings. One (1) year of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Leadership development experience to help foster a diverse and inclusive community on campus.
  • Expertise in diversity and inclusion practices to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for students and staff.
  • Strong program management skills with experience in designing and executing diversity-related initiatives and expertise in intergroup dialogue.
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices around diversity, equity and inclusion (e.g., implicit bias, cultural humility, microaggression training, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in facilitation and instructional design.
  • Advanced communication skills including writing, editing, speaking/facilitating and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced user of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access).
  • Intermediate user of GSuite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to develop long-term goals and objectives for diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs in collaboration with the director.
  • Ability to organize and interpret data and records using various tools (e.g., Google Forms and Qualtrics).
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of stakeholders (e.g., internal and external).
  • Ability to work independently as well as under direction.
  • Ability to assess training programs.

Additional Information:

• Salary range for this position is $77,036 to $80,000.
• Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position.
