Assistant Director, New Students
Job Description
What You'll Do:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Admissions, prospective students and their families regarding financial aid options, eligibility, and application procedures.
- Collaborate with the Admissions team to develop and implement strategies to recruit and enroll a diverse student population by providing accurate and timely financial aid information.
- Assist in the development and delivery of educational presentations and workshops on financial aid topics to incoming and current students.
- Conduct comprehensive financial aid counseling sessions to assist students in understanding their financial aid packages, loan options, and scholarship opportunities.
- Evaluate financial aid applications, verify information provided, and determine eligibility for various types of aid programs.
- Monitor and manage financial aid budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and maximizing aid availability to eligible students.
- Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies related to financial aid and ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, ensuring data integrity and compliance with relevant privacy laws.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in student financial aid to continuously improve services and processes.
- Assistant Director is responsible for participating in outreach programs and events and supervision of staff assisting with such events and administering aid to the incoming students.
- Assistant Director uses professional judgment according to federal, state and institutional guidelines when reviewing appeals from students.
- Participation in administration of individual student aid programs; aggregate dollars of programs involved exceed 1 million dollars.
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in financial aid administration, preferably in higher education.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively explain complex financial concepts to students and families.
- Proficiency in using financial aid software, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and record-keeping.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the job.
- May not be currently delinquent or in default on a federal loan, or owe a overpayment of federal grant funds.
- Extended hours and/or weekend work required, depending on time of year, volume and demand.
