The Work-Study Student Assistant for the Information Technology (IT) Department will provide technical support, assist with hardware and software management, and help maintain the IT infrastructure of the college. This position is designed for students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in IT operations while supporting the needs of the college community. The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, improve problem-solving abilities, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Specific Position Duties
Technical Support:
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with troubleshooting hardware and software issues in computer labs, classrooms, and administrative areas.
- Answer basic questions and provide guidance on IT-related topics, including software installation, network connectivity, and peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.).
- Assist with setting up and configuring computers, monitors, printers, and other devices for use in classrooms and offices.
Hardware & Software Maintenance:
- Assist in the installation and configuration of new hardware and software systems for the college.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as software updates, virus scans, and ensuring security patches are applied.
- Support inventory tracking of hardware and peripherals.
Network Support:
- Assist with the management of network resources, including setting up wired and wireless network connections.
- Help ensure that all devices are connected to the network and troubleshooting basic connectivity issues.
Technical Documentation & Inventory:
- Maintain records of hardware, software, and IT-related inventory.
- Assist with documentation of IT processes, workflows, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Help create user guides and FAQ materials for common technical issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and eligible for the work-study program.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts.
- Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users and communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with attention to detail and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other IT staff members, faculty, and students.
