Position Summary: The Human Resources Associate (HR Associate) is a permanent, part-time (25 hours/week) position, reporting to the Human Resources Director, People & Culture (HR Director). The HR Associate is a crucial, multifaceted position that is primarily responsible for full-cycle recruitment, onboarding and offboarding staff, performance management, benefits administration, training and development, and event planning. The HR Associate will possess strong organizational skills, a high level of accuracy, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively. To be successful in this position, a general understanding of HR practices and the ability to handle confidential information with integrity is essential to the credibility, effectiveness, and efficiency of the Human Resources department.
Position Responsibilities:
Recruitment (15%):

Draft and post job advertisements on various platforms.

Facilitate resume management and user access in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

Screen resumes and applications to identify top candidates.
-
Conduct initial phone screens and in-person interviews.
-
Coordinate interviews with hiring managers and provide feedback.
-
Conduct the offer and negotiation process.
-
Conduct reference and background checks.
-
Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires.
Onboarding and Offboarding (15%):
-
Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires and offboarding process for departing employees.
-
Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback to improve workplace culture.
-
Review processes and make recommendations of improvements, as necessary.
Performance Management (15%):

Support the performance review process, including setting timelines, providing training, and ensuring timely completion.

Assist managers in addressing performance issues and developing improvement plans.

Support career development, talent management, and succession planning initiatives.

Assist with the implementation of employee engagement and retention programs.
Benefits Administration (15%):

Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.

Conduct open enrollment sessions and assist employees with benefits-related questions.

Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding benefits.
HR Compliance (10%):

Assist with maintaining labor law compliance and regulations.

Prepare and maintain accurate HR records and reports.

Conduct audits of HR programs and recommend improvements as needed.
Training and Development (5%):

Coordinate training sessions and professional development programs.

Support the implementation of employee development initiatives.

Identify training needs and develop training materials, as necessary.
HR Administration (15%):

Maintain accurate employee records in the HR Information System (HRIS).

Assist with payroll processing and ensure accuracy, as necessary.

Assist with the implementation of HR policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
Meeting and Event Planning (5%):

Plan and coordinate meetings, events, retreats, and other functions.

Manage logistics, including venue selection, catering, transportation, and equipment setup.

Prepare agendas and materials for HR-related meetings and events.
-
Ensure smooth execution of events and address any issues that arise.

Organize team-building activities to promote a positive workplace culture.
Other Duties (5%):

Support various HR projects as assigned.

Provide general administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of HR functions.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
-
Any equivalent combination of training, education, certification, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the position’s essential functions.

Any degree in Human Resources or a related field is a plus.

PHR or SHRM certification is a plus.
Experience and Skills:

At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar Human Resources role.

Familiar with HR best practices and employment laws.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to build and maintain positive relationships with staff and external contacts at all levels.

Ability to address and resolve employee concerns and issues effectively and know when to escalate matters.

Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in all aspects of the work, including documentation.

Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is $25-$30, based on our DC office location and may vary based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market. Typically, new employees are hired into the middle portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in the range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Salary offers are made in consideration of our internal equity within the organization and external equity with competitive markets.
