Job Description

Job Title

Program Director, Data Governance and Policy

Job Description

An organization’s success is intimately tied to its ability and willingness to leverage consistent, accurate and secure data in its strategic decision-making. Undoubtedly, arming leaders with effective information policies and practices fosters innovation, enhances efficiency and mitigates risk. The University of Notre Dame maintains a steadfast commitment to ensure that data quality, consistency and security is held to a gold standard.

To this end, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is hiring a Program Director, Data Governance and Policy to lead and advance the University’s Information Governance program.

This position has three primary pillars of responsibility and leadership:
  • Information Governance Committee and related working groups
  • Policy and Standards Management
  • Data Governance across ND

Our future Program Director will consult executive leadership and senior administrators on policies, standards, and strategies that align with the University’s strategic objectives and facilitate data access, sharing and collaboration. As a member of the OIT extended leadership team, they will serve as the institutional authority on the management and use of institutional data to help guide and advise our leaders in their strategic direction.

  • Lead the collaborative development of data definitions for key University terms
  • Lead the integration of the University Data Dictionary into reporting and analysis environments
  • Develop policies and standards for information governance and coordinate the editing and updating of all IT policies at Notre Dame
  • Serve as the IT Lead for the University’s Information Governance Committee and the chair of the Data Managers Working Group
  • Structure data to be easily accessible, supporting the efficient rollout of new programs and applications

Key Characteristics for Success:

Trust and Collaboration – The ability to build trusted relationships across campus is crucial for successful data stewardship. Collaborative governance ensures trusted data, enabling the best decisions possible.

Strategic Vision – A deep understanding of the University’s values, community, and strategic objectives to advance data governance and stewardship, not just maintain current practices.

Leadership Presence – This role should be positioned within the Office of Information Technology (OIT), to effectively manage relationships with VPs, AVPs, and other senior leaders across the University.

At Notre Dame, we believe in creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. We are committed to diversity in all its forms and actively seek candidates from underrepresented backgrounds. We encourage applications from individuals of all races, ethnicities, genders, abilities, and perspectives.
