Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations, the Alumni Chaplain and Assistant to the Vice President offers pastoral care to alumni, serving as a dedicated chaplain to Fordham University alumni.

 

Additionally, the Alumni Chaplain serves as the assistant to the Vice President for Development and University Relations on special projects and broader DAUR initiatives.

 

Some travel and availability to work nights and weekends is required.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Offers pastoral care to alumni of the University, including representing the University at wakes and funerals, weddings, and baptisms.
  • Visits sick alumni in hospitals and homes.
  • Provides spiritual counseling and direction to alumni.
  • Organizes spiritual retreats for alumni of the University – multi-day overnight retreats, one-day retreats, and digital retreats.
  • Offers benedictions and invocations at alumni events; develops adult education events in faith and reason for the alumni; and tends to the pastoral needs of the DAUR staff.
  • Assists the vice president of development and university relations in major gifts solicitations.
  • Serves as an Ignatian spirituality/Jesuit education resource for DAUR and leads periodic workshops/discussions as needed.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Bachelors’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 of experience in religious vocation work.
  • Ordained Catholic priests, including Jesuits or members of other religious communities or secular clergy.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Demonstrated passion for faith development and mentoring of young adults.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in administration and building strong partnerships.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness of inclusive ministry with diverse populations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly attentive to detail and demonstrates excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience as a campus chaplain.

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $65,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $75,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
