Substitute, Part-Time Hourly, Temporary Pool – Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

DESCRIPTION
This is a pool of applicants for any substitute, part-time hourly, temporary positions in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) area at Napa Valley College. These temporary positions are at-will employment.
Possible positions that may fall under this Emergency Medical Services (EMS) temporary pool are:
- Clinical Lab Specialist, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Clinical Lab Specialist, First Responder
- Clinical Lab Specialist, Paramedic Program
The primary objective of the EMT Clinical Lab Skills Specialist is to facilitate student learning through the development of EMT and First Responder student skills in the lab setting of the respective courses. The primary objective of the Paramedic Program Clinical Lab Skills Specialist is to facilitate student learning through the development of student paramedic skills in the lab setting during the didactic, clinical and field internship portion of the paramedic course. The Clinical Lab Specialists for both programs work under the direction of the primary instructor to deliver education that is consistent with expectations of the Commission on Accreditation for Educational Programs for the EMS Professions and with the college's goal of assisting students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are specific to this program's discipline.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide hands on skills instruction to students in the lab setting;
- Teach BLS level skills (and ALS level skills for Paramedic Lab Specialists);
- Provide feedback to primary instructors about primary instructor lab lesson plans in a constructive manner;
- Attend program meetings, which are held twice per semester to review student progress and discuss possible improvements to the delivery of the program;
- Under the direction of the course primary instructor, engage in regular assessment of student skills;
- Foster and maintain open, constructive, and effective communications with each other in order to promote programmatic and student success.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education & Certification:
Level of Instruction and Requirements- EMR/ First Responder Skills = Requires previous or current EMT, Advanced EMT, RN or Emergency Physician license, with a minimum of 2 years of EMS experience.
- EMT Skills = Requires a California licensed EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, RN, or Emergency Physician.
- Paramedic Skills = Requires a California licensed Paramedic, RN, or Emergency Physician.
Minimum Experience:- At least one year of work experience in an EMS related position within the past 24 months.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of community college students.
Desired Qualifications:- Associates degree from an accredited institution.
- Any instructor certification in ACLS, PALS, BLS, and ITLS or equivalent.
- Previous teaching experience, which may include field or clinical preceptor experiences.
- Working knowledge of NREMT requirements.
- Ability to facilitate effective group processes and interpersonal communication.
- Proven ability to address diverse learning styles of students.
- Ability to assess student learning in both theory and application of skills.
- Proven experience working collaboratively with colleagues.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
