Job Description
Position Summary
Victoria College's department of Mathematics, Engineering, & Physical Education is hiring a Part Time Lead Learning Assistant. Their primary responsibilities include coordinating learning assistant services for all VC Learning Labs and working in conjunction with the Learning Lab Coordinator to train learning assistants under CRLA guidelines. Responsible for communicating and maintaining working relationships with other faculty and staff. Responsible for providing math learning assistance from the foundational level up through calculus while overseeing the learning assistants in the Chemistry, Math, and Physics Learning Lab at Victoria College.
This position is supported by a five-year US Department of Education Title V grant ending 9/30/2026, with annual continuation funding after 9/30/2025 contingent on funding availability.Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the training of learning assistants using the CRLA guidelines.
- Conduct workshops and classroom presentations aimed at improving study skills and retention.
- Assist the Learning Lab Coordinator with the Marketing of the Learning Lab and events.
- Assist Learning Assistants with setting up and maintaining their Navigate and Webex availability.
- Attending tutor training sessions and workshops.
- Utilizes CRLA Certification and expertise to benefit other learning assistants and the Learning Lab.
- Create/develop instructional handouts/materials in consultation with appropriate faculty members and the Learning Lab Coordinator.
- Conduct TSI Reviews and prepare TSI Review materials.
- Assist the Learning Lab Coordinator with ordering and maintaining snacks and food for the Learning Lab.
- Provide learning assistance to students in the Chemistry, Math, and Physics Learning Lab when needed.
- Contribute to an environment that is inviting and positive to enhance the delivery of services to students.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Academic Support and Student Success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics required
- Experience working with high school/college students required
- Ability to adapt to varying levels of comprehension
- Friendly, patient, and experienced in active learning techniques
