Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Apprenticeships and Community Outreach is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing apprenticeship programs that align with industry needs and educational standards. This role includes building partnerships with local businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to expand apprenticeship opportunities. This role also develops, plans, and directs Kids College programing in the Summer to engage and excite youth about careers and programs in our area. The Director will also manage community outreach initiatives to foster engagement, ensure program visibility, and address the workforce development needs of the community.

Program Development & Management:

  • Develop, implement, and promote apprenticeship programs in collaboration with local businesses, unions, and industry stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to apprenticeship standards.
  • Work with educational institutions to align apprenticeship programs with academic curricula and credentialing pathways.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs, making improvements as needed to meet workforce demands.
  • Coordinate the academic activities of Sewar County Community College students in Apprenticeships.
  • Work closely with Industry partners to meet the needs of both the company or sponsor and the apprentices.
  • Maintain records on apprentices, including entering data into RAPIDS
  • Prepare and revise apprenticeship plans.
  • Actively participate in program advisory committees as assigned.
  • Work closely with the Kansas Department of Commerce Registered Apprenticeship office to get new apprenticeships and youth apprenticeships registered.
  • Work with area companies and organizations to establish new apprenticeships and youth apprenticeships
  • Assist with FAST Track boot camps and other “pre-apprenticeship” activities

Community Outreach:

  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, and governmental agencies.
  • Organize and attend community events, job fairs, and industry meetings to promote apprenticeship programs.
  • Identify and engage with underrepresented groups to ensure equitable access to apprenticeship opportunities.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the liaison between the organization, employers, and apprentices.
  • Conduct outreach to potential employers to build new apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (such as career services and academic departments) to ensure a cohesive approach to student success and workforce readiness.
  • Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for the growth and sustainability of apprenticeship programs.
  • Analyze market trends and labor market data to identify emerging industries and skills gaps.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at increasing employer engagement and expanding the reach of apprenticeship programs.
  • Compliance & Reporting:
  • Ensure programs meet all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Prepare reports for leadership, government agencies, and funding sources on apprenticeship program outcomes and metrics.
  • Oversee the application process for state and federal apprenticeship grants.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Supervise staff involved in apprenticeship program administration and outreach efforts.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to program coordinators, instructors, and support staff.
  • Foster a team environment focused on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, Business Administration, Workforce Development, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in community engagement, workforce development, apprenticeship programs, or a related field.

Experience in community outreach and partnership development.

Proven leadership experience in program management, including supervision of staff and budget management.

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
