We are currently seeking a full-time Ring Fabricator IV for the 2nd shift (3:00pm - 11:30pm), Monday - Friday, at our Jet Products facility located in Kearny Mesa.
We offer a 5% pay differential for 2nd shift!
What does the job involve?
The Ring Fabricator IV is responsible for the set up and operation of heating equipment to alter the properties of metal objects and parts, using specifications and methods, such as heat-treating furnaces for hot-forming, annealing, expanding, rounding, flash welding, or heat-treating. May assist in/or perform other processes of ring fabrication.
What will my responsibilities include?
- Determines temperature and time of heating cycle based on written instructions or overall knowledge of furnace and metal material. Calculates the roll form set up dimensions from written instructions.
- Sets and operates temperature controls, observes gauges and operates gas furnace used to form, round and expand, temper or anneal metal parts. Adjusts controls to maintain temperatures and heating times using charts, dials and gauges of furnaces. Collects temperature sensing data hold planned tolerances according to written work instructions.
- Follows general instruction from work traveler to determine proper processing specifications.
- Determines and verifies load size from traveler. Loads material into furnace using tongs and protective equipment when appropriate furnace temperature has been reached.
- Sets up and operates hot forming machine, including using appropriate tools and dies.
- Operates machine that bends metal structural shapes, such as bars, strips, and rods to specified angles or contour.
- Uses knowledge of metal heat-treating processes, visually examines parts to ensure conformance with written specifications and tests objects for hardness; stamps heat treat identification mark on part using appropriate tools.
- Removes part from furnace after specified time in conformance with traveler specifications and allows parts to cool.
- Performs four or more operation methods involving ring fabrication; including but not limited to grinding, forming, expanding, furnace operation and/or flash welding.
- Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, works overtime when necessary, follows directions from a supervisor, interacts well with co-workers, understands and follows work rules and procedures, works safely, complies with corporate policies, goals and objectives, accepts constructive feedback, establishes goals and objectives and exhibits initiative and commitment.
- Identifies methods to optimize resource utilization of time, materials, and equipment to ensure production goals are met on an ongoing basis.
- Evaluates the metal heat-treating and fabrication processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall quality. Identifies areas for improvement and aids in implementing changes to maximize production effectiveness.
- Identifies areas where additional training or certifications could enhance job performance and contribute to the overall success of the department.
What key skills and experience do I need?
- Ability to read, understand, and calculate necessary information from the written instructions.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, or templates.
- Knowledge of machines and tools; flash welding, MIG/TIG welding, heat treat furnaces, metal rounding.
- Ability to monitor and control machine operation.
- Ability to move, install, position, and handle material including hot parts.
- Ability to quickly move hand(s) together with arm to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
What qualifications should I have?
Education:
- High school diploma/GED preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Vocational training is a plus.
Experience:
- 4 years of similar work experience.
- Experience in welding and metal fabrication preferred.
