Odessa College is looking for an Adjunct Instructor in Mathematics capable of teaching two courses per year of our corequisite models of developmental courses. The title of these courses are MATH 0385 Contemporary Mathematics Pathway and MATH 0387 College Algebra Mathematics Pathway. These courses contain the following levels: Pre-Algebra, Introductory Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra. The College Algebra Pathway course is paired with either a College Algebra course (MATH 1314) or a Business Mathematics and Social Sciences I course (MATH 1324). The Contemporary Mathematics Pathway course is paired with a Contemporary Mathematics course (MATH 1332). Additional classes may include College Algebra, Business Mathematics I, Contemporary Mathematics, Elementary Statistics, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations if the applicant’s credentials permits.
Specific Position Duties
Teach assigned course in the curriculum; Maintains up to date knowledge in the teaching field; Utilize appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners; Provide students with written expectations in such matters as syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.; Administers tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives; By ways and means of instructing students, affirms worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn; Prepare adequately for class and devote appropriate time to classroom activities; Deliver material in a clear understandable manner; Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted student support hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means; Create appropriate course material; Timely communication with students; Timely submission of grades; Attend all schedule departmental meetings; Assist with recruitment, advising and retention activities; Participates in campus wide PLC’s; Holds student support hours on campus; and Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a related discipline from an accredited institution and teaching experience in Mathematics or graduate training in remedial education. Computer Literacy. Experience in teaching or tutoring Oral/Written communications skills needed to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
