OPEN POSITION FOR LECTURER IN GEOENGINEERING
Five years fixed-term position.

Currently, the department has 16 professors supported by lecturers, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral students, and technical staff. In total, the number of personnel is about 115. The department and school have well-equipped research infra and access to national scientific computing services. We are located at Aalto University campus in Otaniemi, Espoo where several research institutions and organizations have their laboratories.
Job description
The position will be filled either at the level of university teacher or university lecturer, depending on the applicant's merits and experience. The position is a five years fixed-term position.
The main task of the selected person is to teach and to assist teaching, supplemented as agreed with a combination of research, community service tasks, and academic leadership. The tasks also include student guidance as well as planning, developing, and leading education in collaboration with departmental professors and other teaching staff.
The open position primarily involves working as a teacher for courses in the Bachelor's Program in Civil Engineering and in the Master's Program in Geoengineering. Teaching is in the areas of Geoengineering, particularly in rock and mining engineering. Knowledge in Geotechnical engineering is considered as advantageous.
The person hired will have their own course responsibilities as well as coordinating tasks on other teachers' courses. The position also includes acting as a supervisor for thesis work. The job includes developing online education, providing academic guidance to students and participation in the selection of new students. The teacher/lecturer is expected to conduct research in her/his field and to keep up with the developments in this field. The exact job description will be determined based on the selected person's skills.
The selected candidate will become a part of our active teaching and research community.
Requirements
The position of university teacher requires a master's degree in rock or mining engineering, geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, or in some other relevant field, while a doctoral degree is required for lecturer positions. Having prior research experience, pedagogical studies, and teaching experience are considered beneficial.
The candidate must have the ability to teach and provide guidance in English. Knowledge in Finnish or Swedish is of high advantage.
