Position Summary:
Working in the Manchester Office of Disability and Accessibility Services (ODAS), the Disability Specialist will support students with learning and other disabilities in their college experience. The Disability Specialist’s main function is to review and evaluate student documentation and engage in the interactive process with students to determine appropriate accommodations given their disabilities.
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Counselor, or Campus Lead, the Disability Specialist is responsible for effective performance in these essential duties:
- Maintain confidential files and keep appropriate records.
- Teach self-advocacy skills to encourage and foster independence.
- Help students with disabilities to identify realistic academic and career goals.
- Review documentation and determine appropriate academic adjustments for students with disabilities.
- Assist students in communicating about their disability to faculty.
- Assist students with disabilities to identify internal and external resources.
- Advise students, faculty and administrators regarding current policies for students with disabilities.
- Assist in the smooth running of the Disabilities Services Office as needs arise.
- Participate in the Disability Team meetings.
- Support students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in postsecondary disability services provision, special education, or a related field, and three (3) years’ experience working with students with disabilities.
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting students on the Autism Spectrum.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, in a higher education setting.
Salary:
$47.24 hourly.
