Aviation Maintenance Technician

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Aviation Maintenance Technician that will be responsible for ensuring all college owned aircraft are maintained to the highest levels of safety. The ideal candidate will be responsible for scheduling and performing routine maintenance checks, diagnosing mechanical, avionics, electrical, and hydraulic systems on single and multi-engine aircraft. Candidate should have extensive knowledge of the diverse aircraft components and the airframes and power plant options available. Must be able to troubleshoot and repair aircraft safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and analytical skills, attention to detail and be able to work well in a group environment.

Report to: Director of Aviation Program
- Evaluate and perform diagnosis, isolation, and repairs of discrepancies for all aircraft systems including flight controls, hydraulics, landing gear, fuel systems and engines.
- Perform scheduled inspections and component removal and replacement with little or no supervision.
- Create and maintain repair logs and records.
- Implement and adhere to strict safety and security guidelines.
- Schedule and complete routine maintenance checks.
- Diagnose avionics systems and repair as needed.
- Maintain compliance reports with regional and federal entities.
- Inspect and repair aircraft as needed according to the FAA guidelines.
Frequent (34-66%)
- Establish and maintain realistic maintenance budget and monitor throughout the year.
- Read and utilize maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other maintenance documents.
- Diagnose and repair aircraft engines.
- Remove, install, align, and check integrated avionics systems.
- Interpret inspection findings and determining corrective action.
- Decides upon necessary repair scheme, quantity and type of parts needed to accomplish proper repair.
Occasional (10-33%)
- On an annual basis, attend professional aircraft maintenance recurrent training that includes a review of all aircraft major components, airframe, engines, and avionics.
- Perform maintenance on hangar facility and support equipment as needed to maintain functionality, reliability, and safety of College assets used in support of flight operations.
- Perform administrative duties relating to aircraft maintenance including FAA compliance of all maintenance records, written logs and historical records pertaining to the aircraft.
- Arrange and/or attend meetings when necessary.
- Perform other work duties as assigned and requested.

SPECIAL DEMANDS:
Position involves standing most of the time; exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently (50-75%). Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying frequently (10-33%). Walking, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motion frequently (34-66%). Talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work constantly (67-100%). Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Required to travel utilizing personal vehicle.
Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold FAA Aircraft and Powerplant certification with Inspection Authorization in addition to 36 months practical work experience with airframes and powerplants.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and education/certification. Minimum salary $54,900.
