Advanced Manufacturing (Industrial Design) – 12-month Faculty

Class Description

The Community College of Baltimore County is seeking an individual to teach a variety of industrial design and manufacturing-related courses, as well as manage the college’s community maker space. Candidates with a strong additive manufacturing background as well as a breadth of knowledge and ability to teach industrial design, manufacturing, blueprint reading, and/or 3D modeling courses are preferred. Full load of instruction and maker space administration in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, college and community service, student advising, departmental support and ongoing professional development are required. The position may involve teaching classes at multiple campuses scheduled during days, evenings, or weekends. Preferred candidates are enthusiastic about content and pedagogy, use best teaching practices, and are committed to hands-on student learning. Best consideration will be given to applicants with the ability to teach a wide variety of hands-on, manufacturing-related courses, along with extensive maker space management experience. 

Minimum Requirements

Associates degree in design, industrial design, manufacturing, additive manufacturing, or related field is required, Bachelors or Masters preferred. Experience with operating and maintaining industry-standard hand tools, power tools, additive, and subtractive manufacturing equipment is required. Experience in managing a Fab Lab or maker space environment preferred.


Two years of teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Experience teaching high school students in a college environment is preferred. Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of industrial design topics including, but not limited to, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC technology, 3D modeling and CAD design using Solidworks, vinyl cutting, and blueprints/schematics is preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Facilitate and support student learning by developing and providing clear and effective instruction using traditional and technology-based instruction.
  2. Meet all classes as assigned during instructional periods. 
  3. Communicate effectively with students by disseminating academic information including syllabi and academic policies and by responding to e-mails and phone calls from students in a timely manner.
  4. Student advising.
  5. Required office hours per CCBC policy.
  6. Class curricula and Program development (including on-line).
  7. Provide effective and appropriate assessment with prompt qualitative and quantitative feedback.
  8. Keep instructional materials and student work organized and accessible.
  9. Set up, troubleshoot, maintain, and clean equipment and workspaces.
  10. Maintain Learning Management System (e.g. Brightspace) site, providing students access to syllabi, grades and other supplemental course material.
  11. Support students and other college units, and comply with relevant state and federal laws 
  12. Collaborate with colleagues in ongoing curricular development including content update, curricular alignment, consistent assessment practices and record keeping.
  13. Collaborate with staff by completing and submitting reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  14. Attend and participate in committee, departmental, College and School meetings.
  15. Provide College and Community Service through collegial and individual initiatives.
  16. Maintain and develop professional expertise through ongoing professional development or scholarship.
