International Education Division Associate Faculty (PT Faculty) Pool:
English Language Acquisition (ELA) and Academic English (AENGL) Departments
LOCATION: Lynnwood Washington
International Division Department Descriptions:
ELA currently offers both day and evening, fully face-to-face, 50% in-person hybrid and fully online classes for English language learners. We prepare adult immigrant and refugee English language learners for college classes and careers and have curriculum outcomes in writing, reading, speaking and listening, and grammar. We offer a range of classes from literacy to advanced levels, and classes for special purposes such as English for business and law. ELA follows College and Career Readiness Standards adopted by the Office of Basic Education. After completing ELA, our students go either to Academic English, Professional and Technical programs, or directly into college English.
AENGL currently offers fully face-to-face, 50% in-person hybrid and fully online classess for English language learners who are pursuing a certificate or degree on an Edmonds College Pathway. We offer courses focusing on academic reading, writing, critical thinking, and editing as well as further study of grammar, development of college-level vocabulary, and practice with speaking and listening. Academic English students are also enrolled in college-level classes.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
We welcome educators to apply for Associate (Part-time) faculty positions. To be considered for this position, please follow the application procedure below.
This position is part of a pool that is open continuously. The pool serves to fill instructional positions when needed. If a position opens, applications will be reviewed. Applications remain on file for one year. If you wish to remain in the part-time pool beyond that time, you can update and resubmit your online application yearly.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA or higher in TESL, or BA or higher in a related field and applicable academic experience or certificate in teaching English as a Second Language or a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language conferred prior to the start of employment. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Teaching, Classroom, or Tutoring experience with adult English language learners
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population in oral and written English
- Ability to work collaboratively with advisers, faculty, staff in a diverse academic environment
- Experience in designing and delivering culturally, linguistically, and socially equitable curriculum and assessments
- Experience with online synchronous instruction on Zoom or other platforms
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed remotely which requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors typically use a personal computer in the work environment.
COMPENSATION:
Work schedule is based on an eleven week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,865.82 at Step A.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
- Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- All new positions are contingent upon funding.
