GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Teaching faculty at Stanly Community College in the K-12 Education department are responsible for supporting student success by creating a collaborative learning environment, responding to student needs, scaffolding student learning, managing effective instructional activities, modeling professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Master’s degree in education related to K-12 (with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in University Transfer discipline)
- 10 years of public or private school teaching experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Teach program material via online classes as assigned by the department program head.
- Learn new material to keep up with trends in the field of Education.
- Facilitate regular and substantive interaction via proactive communication with students.
- Keep up with changes related to technology and use technology to support teaching.
- Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
OTHER DUTIES
- Teach classes as assigned each semester, using traditional or non-traditional course delivery methods, prepare syllabi and distribute appropriately, communicate with students in courses using the college Netiquette policy, and evaluate students via course tests, projects, assignments, and discussions.
- Maintain student attendance and progression in coursework. Submit attendance, grades and any withdrawals through Self-Service.
- Actively participate in student retention by working closely with Success Coach to support students who fall behind in coursework or need other support unrelated to coursework.
- Complete beginning of semester and end of semester checklists for Learning Management, Program Head to fulfill contract obligations.
- Maintain office hours virtually weekly for students in assigned courses.
- Review and recommend updates to courses taught within established guidelines.
- Maintain communication with K-12 Education Program Head with changes to your status to fulfill course teaching obligations.
